The Smokies

We went to the Smokies to go camping. After we drove there and got our place, we set up our tent.

I didn't get to do it all by myself. Even though I wanted to. I got to set up the tent poles and put in the tent stakes. I still had a lot of fun.

This is me unfolding the tent poles.

This is me putting in the stakes.

This is the finished tent. It was so big we could stand up in it.

I helped daddy with the fire. Here we are getting it ready. Much later we would light it - when it was dark.

I am learning to whittle a stick. We are getting the ends sharp so we can roast marshmallows later.

This is me standing on a stump like the Lorax.

This is after we did our hike to the cabin. We are getting ready to go back to our car.

My Day at the Hagia Sofya

Outside of our hotel Kaija and I stopped to pet the kitties.

I think I must have touched my eye after petting the kitty and I had a reaction. My eye started to itch a lot and it got red and puffy. My dad found out where the pharmacy was and we got eye drops. The drops worked super fast. I felt much better. But I was hungry. The next stop was a place to eat lunch. I had the chicken doner plate. Yum.

We went to the Hagia Sofia next.  It was really cool. I got to listen to a great audio tour.

I sat in the spot where the Byzantium Kings' throne used to sit. But I didn't get to go up in the minaret. I did see a picture made of Jesus made of tiny stones.

First Hagia Sofia was a church and then it was a mosque. All the wall art of the church was covered up when it became a mosque. Now they have uncovered parts of it again. So you can see both.

I put my thumb in the special spot to make a wish. I hope it comes true.

My First Day in Istanbul

Last night we flew into the Istanbul airport. Uncle Hakan, Emir and a friend picked us up and drove us to Seda's apartment. Everyone was there to met us!

Today, we woke up and ate a yummy breakfast. After breakfast we walked to the Metro. Next we took the ferry. Finally we got on the ferry boat for the Bosphorus River Cruise.

Here I am on the boat with Okan.

We sailed all the way up the river to Anadolu Kavagi on the Asian side of Turkey. This is where we had lunch.

After lunch we walked around and got ice cream! Then it was time to get back on the ferry.

Here's daddy on the way home.

The Athens' Challenge

Daddy set-up the Athens' Challenge. This isn't our first challenge - we did one in Costa Rica, too.

I have to do certain things to earn points. After you get enough points, you earn different things. After I do this blog post, I will have 500 points. That means I have done a lot of challenges.

One of my first challenges was visiting Zeus' Temple. I get 10 points for every historical place I go to.

I have also been writing blog posts (with help from my mom, dad and sisters). Each post is 25 points.

I had to write down five Greek Phrases.

I also found out about the Three Fates.

I have visited the Acropolis, the National Archeological Museum, the New Acropolis Museum, the National Gardens and Ancient Agora. Plus going to the beach. Tonight we are going to see the Acropolis in the dark.

Statue at the National Archeological Museum:

Playground at National Gardens:

I was able to earn enough points to buy my own Firefighter. I am having fun playing with him!

The Acropolis Museum

We had a great time at the museum. We saw lots of statues with color and not color. The reason some were colored and others weren't is because some were really old and the colors faded. Some were little green statues.

We had a activity quest for finding the statues and putting the sticker on the page. In the activity pack we had a zip loc bag that had pieces of the game Memory. My dad and sister and I were playing and I lost two times and won one. The game was very fun and enjoyable.

Athens - Ancient Angora

First we went to Hadrian's library.  We looked all over for books, but we did not have any luck.  We did see a lot of cute dogs.

Then we went to the below, the Temple of Hephaistos.  It was in really good shape and you could still see some statues at the top.

Below is the Stoa of Attalos.  It had an upstairs and downstairs.  Upstairs there was a lot of pottery, some were broken, but some was in really good shape.  It was neat to see so many.

Below are the ruins of the old city.  It was really cool because we could walk all around them.

Below is the jail of Socrates.  There are 3 jail cells.  During WWII they hide antiquities in them to keep them safe.  I had a really good day and at the end of the day I got my own Greek patch.  It is really neat.

The Three Fates

Today I learned about the Three Fates.

One was the spinner of the string for life.

One measured how long your life should be.

And the last one cut it for your death.

I also heard about them in Percy Jackson.

Acropolis - August 16

Today we got up early and went to the Acropolois.  It would have been hot if we had waited until later. It was a long walk up, but it was really cool (there was also a breeze blowing).  The Acropolois was built for Athenia.

We saw two big theaters.  We were able to go into one and walk around, but we could not go into the other one.  The one below is still used.

This is the Temple for Athenia - It was so big and really cool.  We got to walk all the way around it, but we couldn't go in.

I should build a Temple for my Mommy!

We saw a cute kitty on the Acropolois.  There are kitties and doggies everywhere we go.

Athens - August 14th

Today we started to explore Athens.  We are only 10 minutes from so many cool sites!  We started at Hadrian's Archway.  We then went to the Zeus Temple.  There used to be over 100 Pillars, but only 15 are still standing, but one is laying down.  It was a really big temple but I don't know how they built it.  We also a lot of broken pieces of stones and one looked like a large foot.

Then we went on a long walk through the National Gardens and saw a sign for a playground!  It was hard to find since there were so many trails.  Before we found the playground we found a little zoo with birds, goats and bunnies. We found a small parrot that was blue and white - like the color's of Greece. Then we came upon a Turtle pond.  There were so many pretty turtles and a baby turtle that was really cute.  We also saw a turtle that looked like it escaped.  It was really neat.

Athens is full of Cats - we saw the one below at the Zeus Temple.  We love cats and I am happy that we get to see so many

Welcome to Rome!

First we took a train ride from our town to Rome - a little over an hour!

When we got there it was easy to find the Hop On Hop Off bus.  So, we hopped on and hopped off!  We saw a lot of things on our trip.  It got really hot around lunchtime so we found our hotel and relaxed, and mommy had a long rest.  Then around 4 we headed out for more adventures.  We got back on the Hop On Hop Off bus and went to the Coliseum.  When we got there, I saw a Gladiator!  It was really cool.

We then went out to eat.  I had some noodles - it was scrumptious.  Then we found a special fountain and I threw a 2 cent coin into it (Fontana di Trevi).  We then walked back to our hotel and rested.

The next morning we had a huge breakfast and left with a chocolate muffin - it was so yummy.  We then went on our tour of the Vatican, it was really fun.  I stayed with the tour guide almost the entire time.  We saw a really big Church (St. Peter's Basilica), painting and carvings.  We saw a really old carving (Mary holding Jesus by Michelangelo - Pieta) but someone had hurt it years ago, so it was behind a glass wall.  A lot of other stuff you could get really close to and touch - I liked that.

We then went out to lunch and then we got our train home.  We had an awesome time in Rome!
